     Pliny Henry Babbitt was born on 15 June 1818 at Barre, Worcester Co., MA.1 He was the son of Isaac Babbitt and Sarah Phinney. Pliny Henry Babbitt married Lydia Perry, daughter of Asa Perry, on 19 June 1839.1 Pliny Henry Babbitt died on 17 October 1908 at age 90.1

Pliny's early days were passed on the farm attending the district school. Later he atended Monson & Shelburne Falls' Academies. He finished his limited and hard earned education at Appleton Academy, New Ipswich, NH. It was there that he met Lydia.

Pliny H. and Lydia P. were enumerated in the 1850 Barre, Worcester Co., MA, federal census. He was a farmer, age 31, she was 31. Children in the household were Deborah P. 9, Caleb 7, Mary 3, and George F. 1. Also in the household was Mary Mathews 16.

Pliny H. and Lydia P. were enumerated in the 1860, Barre, Worcester Co., MA, federal census. He was an auctioneer, age 41, she was 42. Children in the household were Deborah 19, Caleb H. 17, Mary Ann 13, George F. 11, Charles A. 9, and Lizzie N. 4.

Pliny H. Babbitt, an auctioneer, enlisted 15 September 1862 at age 44, as a Lieutenant 1st Class in company F. 53rd Infantry Regiment Massachusetts and mustered out on 2 September 1863 in Camp Stevens, Groton, MA.

During his time of service he was detailed to various important duties, among them being assistant commissary on the "Continental" carrying supplies to New orleans. After expiration of service he returned to Barre, but was later called to Washington, where for a year he was recruiting officer. 2

Returning to Barre he resumed his previous lines of business. He was honored by hi stownsmen with various offices. Was Constable or Deputy Sheriff for mearly seventy years. His advice was frequently sought and he always proved a good counsellor. He was much interested in the affairs of the town, especially in the church and schools, and did much to stimulate their growth and prosperity. An active, sueful and patriotic citizen, as well as a kind and indulgent husband and father. His finetieth birthday was celebrated in Barre shortly before his death. All his children and grandchildren being present. 2

Pliny was enumerated in the 1870, Barre, Worcester Co., MA, federal census. He was an auctioneer, age 52. Also in the household was Harriet M. Babbitt, 45, Marianna 23, and Lizzie N. 14; Ellen M. Newton 21, and Sheridan Tolman, 23.

Pliny was enumerated in the 1880 Barre, Worcester Co., MA, federal census. He was a farmer, age 62. Also in the household were daughters Mary A. 33, and Lizzie N. 24.

Pliiny was enumerated in the 1900 Barre, Worcester Co., MA, federal census, in the household of son-in-law, Harding Jenkins. He was a widower, age 81.

Percy Coleman Fountain

b. 10 January 1907, d. 1 February 1956
     Percy Coleman Fountain was born on 10 January 1907 at Monroeville, Monroe Co., AL. He married Rebecca Buck, daughter of John Ernst Buck and Anna Harvey Skinner, on 18 December 1943. Percy Coleman Fountain died on 1 February 1956 at Mobile, Mobile Co., AL, at age 49. He was buried on 2 February 1956 at Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile, Mobile Co., AL.1

Son of Judge Murdock McCorvey Fountain and Evelyn Margaret Nettles Fountain. Grandson of William Henry Fountain and Mary Elizabeth McCorvey Fountain.

During World War II Percy served in the United States Navy 1942-1945 with the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of the Mobile Carnival Court of 1936; King of Carnival, 1939; and was a member of other Mystic societies; the Bachelors; the Mobile Country Club; the Jaycees; and the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mobile. On December 18, 1943, he married Rebecca Buck of Mobile and their children are Percy Coleman Fountain, Jr. and John Ernst Fountain.
P.C. served on the Ticket Committee for several years prior to his death in 1956. Also he served for several years as Demon and was especially skillful in that capacity. With his suave court-room abilities as a prosecutor, his subtle showmanship and quick wit, it was woe to his target and much amusement for those present.

Admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1929 and practiced in Monroeville 1929-31. Moving to Mobile he became associated with Smith and Johnston and practiced law with that firm 1931-1939. He was First Assistant U.S. District Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama 1939-1942 and 1945-1948. He was U.S. District Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama 1948-1956. He is listed in ‘Who's Who in America 1954-55 and subsequent years.
