     Rockwell Holcombe was born on 12 October 1837 at West Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.2 He was the son of Amasa Holcombe and Almira Rice. Rockwell Holcombe married Harriett Whebby circa 1863. Rockwell Holcombe died on 14 December 1933 at Somers, CT, at age 96.2

Rockwell and Harriett were enumerated in the 1870 East Granby, Hartford Co., CT, federal census. He was a farmer age 32, she was 28. Children in the household were Wayne 4, and Jane (?) 1 month. Also in the household were two children, Laura Dimick(?) age 13 and sister(?) Lena age 9.

Rockwell and Harriet were enumerated in the 1880 Suffield, Hartford Co., CT, federal census (NA film T9-0099, page 239A). He was a farmer age 42, she was 38. Children in the household were Wayne R. 14, and Henrietta 10. Also in the household were his half-brother Arthur 12, neice Laura Q. Holcombe 23, brother Richard 61, sister-in-law Lydia S. 62, nephew Edwin L. 24, and other Martha B. Robinson 15, who assisted with housework.

Rockwell and Harriet were enumerated in the 1900 census of East Granby, Hartford Co., CT, page 2B, line 70. He was a farmer age 62, she was 58. They had been married 37 and had two children, both still living. Also in the household was son Wayne 34, and his family.


Rockwell (age 82) was enumerated in the 1920 Somers, Tolland Co., CT federal census (ED 314, page 7B) in the household of his son Wayne.

Rockwell C. Holcomb, 96, for many years a prominent farmer and tobacco grower in the Somersville section of this town, died at the home of his son, W.R. Holcomb Thursday morning. He had been in failing health two years. Born in West Simsbury, October 12, 1837, Mr. Holcomb had spent most of his life in Somers. He leaves his son, a daughter, Mrs. Henrietta Burr of Baltic, and four grandchildren. The funeral will be at the home of his son Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. Elmer J. Cook, pastor of the Somersville Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will be in North Bloomfield.

     Helen Rita Holcombe was born on 20 October 1933 at Westfield, Hampden Co., MA.2 She was the daughter of Irving Leroy Holcombe and Muriel Brackett Fuller. Helen Rita Holcombe died on 16 July 2019 at Appomattox, VA, at age 85.

APPOMATTOX, Va. — Helen Holcomb Warner, 85, of Appomattox, Va., died Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of William R. Warner for 62 years.

Helen was born October 20, 1933, in Westfield, Mass., a daughter of the late Muriel Fuller and Irving Holcomb. Helen and William operated a family dairy farm for 30 years in Watertown.

During her lifetime Helen drove a tri-axle truck, worked in construction, drove a school bus and worked at Walmart where she enjoyed her time.

She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother by three sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Martha Warner of Appomattox, Ted and Lisa Warner of Northfield and Pete and Sue Warner of Appomattox; two daughters, Susan Cote of Watertown and Debbie Warner of Cocoa Beach, Fla; 13 grandchildren, Matt, Billy, Krissy, Nick, Katy, Travis, Kenny, Nadean, Colleen, Eric, Amber, Brady and Zach; and seven great-grandchildren, Evan, Mason, Kinsley, Derek, Emerson, Hudson and Khloe. She is also survived by a sister, Jan LeClair (Ernie); brother-in-law, Don Nodine and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mark Cote; a brother, Chester Holcomb; and a sister, Dorothy Nodine.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, July 19, at Robinson Funeral Home in Appomattox.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy (Holcomb) Nodine, 82, of Terryville, wife of Donald L. Nodine passed away Thursday February 14, 2019 at Cook Willow Convalescent Home, Plymouth.

Dorothy was born December 6, 1936 in Bristol, CT, she was the daughter of the late Irving and Muriel (Fuller) Holcomb. Prior to her retirement she was employed by Diamond Showcase of Unionville. Dorothy loved her family, reading and spending time at her home in Vermont. She was very active with Girl Scouts, Junior Women’s Club and the High Riders Snowmobile Club.

In addition to her husband Donald she is survived by her son, Dr. Donald L. Nodine of Bristol; her daughter, Diane Macdonald and her husband Andrew of Northborough, MA; her sisters, Helen Warner of VA, Janice LeClair of Thomaston and her three grandchildren, Duncan, Cameron and Gavin Macdonald.

Relatives and friends may visit at the Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville on Tuesday February 19, 2019 from 5 – 7PM. Burial in the spring will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Terryville.

Lois (Petit) Holcomb, 87, of Suffield, beloved wife of Drayton C. Holcomb, died Saturday, (August 9, 2008) at a local convalescent home. Born July 29, 1921, in Hartford, daughter of the late Emil and Emma (Gerhardt) Petit, she grew up in Hartford before moving to North Granby and then to Suffield 19 years ago. Lois was a member of the First Congregational Church in Granby. She was an avid seamstress and quilter and received many awards for her work and she was a member of the Granbee's Quilting Club but above all she was a wonderful homemaker. Besides her husband, Drayton of 64 years, she is survived by two daughters, Holly Condon and her husband, John of West Suffield, Judy Holcomb of Granby; five grandchildren, Neal Condon, John Condon (Beverly), Sarah Devine (Christopher), Kirsten Doherty (Peter), Valerie Keith (Jamey); seven great grandchildren, Ashley, Nicholas, John, Miranda Condon, Elizabeth Devine, Emma Keith, Aidan Doherty; she was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Seaton. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 16, 11 a.m., at Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Jane Curtiss married LtC Carlton Chester Holcombe, son of Chester Harvey Holcombe and Rebecca Mary Phelps, on 30 December 1978 at Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Jane Curtiss died on 20 November 2003 at Hospice of Martin and St. Lucie, Stuart, Martin Co., FL, at age 83.1 She was buried on 6 December 2003 at Center Cemetery, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.2

Jane Curtiss Beaumont Holcomb, 83, of Jupiter died Thursday, Nov. 20 at Hospice of Martin and St. Lucie, Stuart.

A native of Simsbury, Conn., she lived in the Jupiter area since 1978.

During World War II she was a member of the Civil Air Patrol in Connecticut and Nebraska and worked for the American Red Cross in Alexandria, Va.

She was past president of Simsbury Historical Society and past regent of the Abigail Phelps N.S. chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the Jupiter Lighthouse chapter. She was a member of the Connecticut Society of Geneologists; Frary Family; Simbury Cemetery Association; Curtiss Cemetery Association; and Simsbury Research Library.

Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Carlton C. Holcomb; a sister, Marion Curtiss Clark of Jupiter; a daughter-in-law, Pamela Beaumont of Massachusetts; three stepchildren, Dee White, Susan Voudreu and C.C. Holcomb Jr; two grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-granchildren.

She was predeceased by two sons, Curtiss Lee Beaumont and William Davis Beaumont.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29 at Taylor and Modeen Funeral Home, 250 Center St., Jupiter.

Inurnment services will be on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Simsbury Center Cemetery, Simsbury.
